Details of Experience:
Ms. Builes was admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital in Queens, NY, on January 4, 2023, for general weakness on the right side of her body. While in the hospital, she was diagnosed with Covid-19. This diagnosis led to a lengthy hospital stay, resulting in Ms. Builes’s inability to walk independently. At this point, her care team at Mount Sinai Hospital recommended inpatient rehabilitation after she was discharged from the hospital. After that determination was made, Ms. Builes’ hospital social worker assisted her and her sister in finding the best possible rehab community to help on the road to recovery, which meant choosing Rockville due to its incredible reputation for amazing and loving staff and extraordinary care.
Ms. Builes was admitted to Rockville on January 27, 2023, where she was immediately greeted by Kevin Welge, Director of Concierge. Upon admission, Ms. Builes was also greeted by the nursing staff, who helped her become acquainted with her new environment. That very same day, Ms. Builes was evaluated by the rehabilitation staff in her room, who helped Ms. Builes and her sister develop a plan of care that would lead to her walking again and being able to go home.
Upon admission, Ms. Builes needed complete assistance with getting dressed, being able to stand up, and taking the smallest of steps. Due to this, the therapy program that was developed would help Ms. Builes slowly re-learn how to do these things, first with a very minimal amount of assistance and,, later, completely on her own. After only a month of rehab, she has been able to move around in her bed with
very minimal assistance, and also, after only a month of rehab, she was able to stand with only one person assisting her instead of two people. One major step in Ms. Builes’ rehabilitation came when she successfully walked the entire length of a set of parallel bars in the rehab gym because Rockville’s beloved pet therapist Rocky, a yellow Labrador retriever who visits twice per week, was at the other end of the bars and she wanted to pet him. That was the beginning of even more massive strides.
Ms. Builes has made incredible progress in her recovery at Rockville, and the rehab staff is incredibly proud of her. She is well on her way to being discharged and returning home. She is forever grateful for the amazing support and care the team at Rockville has provided during her stay.
