Details of Experience:

Ms. Ulloa was admitted to North Shore University Hospital on June 12, 2024, for pre-planned knee replacement surgery. During her brief hospital stay, her care team determined that the best course of action for her to begin her road to recovery would be sub-acute, inpatient rehabilitation. She and her family conducted research and made the determination that Rockville Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center was the best place possible for her to begin her post-surgery rehab.

Ms. Ulloa was admitted to Rockville on June 14, 2024, where she was greeted by the evening nursing staff, who helped get her acquainted with her new surroundings, as she arrived late in the evening. The next morning, she was greeted by Kevin Welge, Rockville’s Director of Concierge, who helped her settle in after her first night.

Over her first day, Ms. Ulloa met with the rehabilitation staff, who conducted their initial evaluation. This evaluation helped the rehabilitation staff, along with Ms. Ulloa and her family, find the best therapy plan for her, which would help her get back on her feet and get used to her new knee in the safest manner possible. Ms. Ulloa told the rehab staff that the one thing she wanted to work towards was being able to make fresh pasta again, so the rehab staff made it a priority to help her achieve her goal.

When Ms. Ulloa first started her therapy program, she needed a lot of assistance with the most basic tasks, including getting in and out of bed. She was also nervous about moving her knee due to the pain she was experiencing from her surgery. As a result of a group effort between the therapy staff, the nursing staff, and the recreation staff, she built her confidence. She can see her significant progress in the few short weeks at Rockville. She can now stand with a minimal amount of assistance and climb multiple stairs with only a minimal amount of assistance.

Ms. Ulloa’s unwavering determination to reach her goal has been truly inspiring. Her hard work, coupled with the support of the Rockville staff, has led to incredible progress. She is now on the path to being discharged and returning home, a testament to her resilience. Ms. Ulloa is deeply grateful for the guidance she has received during her stay.
