Details of Experience:
Mr. Pfeil was admitted to South Nassau Communities Hospital on June 9, 2024, after he fell while at home. During his 3-day hospital stay, his care team, along with his daughter, Karen, determined that sub-acute, inpatient rehabilitation would be the best course of action for Helmut to begin his road to recovery.
It was easy to decide where Helmut would begin his journey of healing. He has been a previous patient at Rockville, also from a fall, and the patient’s daughter Karen is the godmother of Rockville’s Director of Concierge, Kevin Welge.
Mr. Pfeil was admitted to Rockville on September 9, 2024, where he was greeted by Kevin Welge, who accompanied him to his room. Once he arrived, the nursing supervisor welcomed him and helped him settle in.
Mr. Pfeil met with rehab, led by physical therapist Christine Rizzacasa. During his first stay, Rizzacasa was Mr. Pfeil’s therapist and has since been promoted to Rockville’s Assistant Director of Rehabilitation.
When Mr. Pfeil began his rehab, it was not safe for him to transfer from a bed or chair to standing without any assistance, so that became a point of focus for the rehab team. Compounding this issue was that he was wearing shoes that did not fit him properly and did not provide the support he needed. The rehab staff worked with his daughter, a physical therapist herself, to get him fitted into shoes that fit correctly and have the orthopedic support he needed.
After just a few short weeks, Helmut can transfer from a chair or bed to standing with minimal support. He is also up and walking with a walker with supervision. Rockville’s staff are incredibly proud of his progress and cannot wait to see him go home.
He and his family will forever be grateful for all the support they have received at Rockville. We wish him well on his continuing journey towards renewal and better health.
