Linda was admitted to St. Joseph’s Hospital on January 2, 2025, after developing an infection in her right leg. During her hospital stay, her care plan team determined that a below-the-knee amputation was the best course of action due to the nature of the infection.
After the amputation was completed, it was determined that inpatient subacute rehab was her best path to recovery. Linda, along with her care plan team, determined that due to its amazing reputation, Rockville Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center would be the best place for her to receive rehab on her road to recovery.
When Linda arrived at Rockville, Kevin Welge, the director of concierge services, welcomed her. Once in her room, Linda met with the nursing supervisor, who helped get her settled into her new surroundings. Afterward, Kevin introduced Linda to the idea of the Comprehensive Amputee Rehabilitation Program, a program that helps amputees get up and back on their feet as soon as possible and is supported by two former Paralympic Gold Medalists, Todd Schaffhauser and Dennis Oehler, both of whom are amputees.
Todd, Dennis, and the therapists immediately began fitting Linda for a prosthetic leg. Her return to a more independent lifestyle then began in earnest. She worked extensively on her rehab, from just starting out to being able to stand.
Linda soon was able to don her prosthetic leg and walk all over Rockville with a walker. She was also able to transfer to the bathroom independently. She has come an extremely long way in only two months.
Upon her request, Linda’s daughter received a video of her walking with her physical therapist, who was elated at how far her mother has come. Linda and her family will forever be grateful to the outstanding staff at Rockville for all the hard work and assistance provided.
The team at Rockville wishes Linda continued success as she completes her healthcare journey..and returns to her fullest potential of reNEWal.
